SECRETS

...and for me, that utterance may be given to me
that I may open my mouth boldly to make
known the mystery of the gospel
Ephesians 6:19

I never cease being amazed in our day that we have lost any necessity of keeping secrets.  I believe a great deal of that can be faulted because we are now such an electronic culture where we can find out anything at any time with just the push of a button.

According to many, especially the media, ur government isn't supposed to have secrets of any sort, especially regarding anything military.  I'm always amazed in our President's press conferences the questions reporters ask him that fifty or sixty years ago would have been considered treasonous.  I was recalling probably a little more than 80 years ago, my mother and I were riding a bus to a downtown area.  Some big kids in the neighborhood had tried to teach me some "pig Latin."  I thought it was kind of fun and on that day with my Mother I tried using a few words of it with her.  I was immediately slapped, given a good shaking and reminded that we were at war with Germany and anyone who heard me could think our family members were traitors.  She thought what I said sounded too German-ish.  In those days, no one asked questions.  Secrecy in many areas was a necessity.  My mother reminded me of a poster I had seen that said:  LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS.  I had no idea what that meant but said nothing.

However, on personal levels, our culture has strayed away from the decency of even keeping private personal requests on the part of friends or family to keep some things of importance a secret.  A friend may share something very personal with another well-meaning friend but may often be too much to hang onto in conversation with someone else.

There will always be a need for secrecy in so many areas, but there is one huge area where secrecy shouldn't even be considered.  There is no secret to the fact that Jesus came into the world to save sinners such as you and me.  It's no secret He died a horrible death on the cross that we might be saved from our sin, live in a growing relationship with Him and live eternally with our Father.  It's a reality in our lives that we often keep secret because of what someone might think of us.  Jesus is not a secret and the sweet knowing of Him should not be treated in a hush-hush manner.    The secret is out....Jesus is alive.  May we be a part in sharing that great news not just in word but in our every day living.

Thank You Father for sending Your Son Jesus to die for all of us.  May we never hesitate in spreading the good news of all He came to earth to do for each of us.  Empower us to speak of Him to others without hesitation.  In His name...Amen
